The above image is a photo of me being nibbled on by Teal, my friendly Arabian neighbor. He's a hoot and a holler, and there's nothing like having your beard bitten by a horse.
Self care is important to me, and I like to remind nurses that they need to look after many parts of themselves, including their inner children. This is me back in 1965 when I was a wee one.
Your emotional intelligence---or E.Q. (emotional quotient)---is just as important as your I.Q., if not more so. Emotional intelligence is something that can actually be learned. Consider how you can make sure that your emotional life is something that receives your attention, and discover ways to increase your E.Q.
This image is pretty self-explanatory. Nurses need to have fun and take care of themselves. My wife, Mary, took this photo of me at one of our favorite spots on the Rio Grande outside of Taos, New Mexico.
I am so very grateful for my readers, my colleagues, my podcast listeners, and all of the nurses that are the engine, lifeblood, and spine of this crazy healthcare system. You know who you are!
Make sure that your nursing career is something that you love, not something that runs you into the ground. If your career isn't satisfying, enlivening, and energizing, we need to talk!
Many blessings on April Fools' Day, and all the best from me to you!
