You gave one another a gift, and that is priceless. Your brothers probably simply need to heal.Keith "Nurse Keith" Carlson, RN, BSN, NC-BChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03581947410641941224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10246967.post-77352674024799915342008-09-08T00:10:00.000-04:002008-09-08T00:10:00.000-04:00I agree that death of a loved one should be in the...I agree that death of a loved one should be in the home with family members present. I am a nurse and my father died at home with all of us present but now I'm haunted and feel that I contributed to my fathers rapid death because of the morphine that I was administering sublinquinal as directed by the hospice nurse. I remember my brother telling me that my father was never going to wake up again if I didn't stop giving him all that morphine. I wanted so very much to keep my father from the agonizing pain of lung cancer that had metastisized to the brain. Now I'm still haunted, did I contribute to his rapid death out of my burning desire to keep him free from pain. I was laying in the bed with my father, holding him in my arms when he took his last breath. That is a memory and a gift that I will cherish till the day I take my last breath. I just wish I could find some peace and closure to the issue of the morphine. Even with my education and experience, I know that I did nothing wrong but my brothers words will haunt me forever.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10246967.post-68282876658389872102008-07-16T06:27:00.000-04:002008-07-16T06:27:00.000-04:00Keith your compassion is obvious and I wish to tha...Keith your compassion is obvious and I wish to thank you, One hospice worker to another.
